Makkah: The Grand Mosque of Makkah is equipped with a cutting-edge audio system featuring 8,000 speakers that span 650,000 square meters across its three expansions, courtyards, and surrounding roads, ensuring high-quality transmission of the call to prayer, sermons, and daily prayers.
According to Saudi Press Agency, a dedicated team of 120 engineers and technicians works around the clock to manage this intricate system. They utilize 100 microphones to capture the voices of imams, muezzins, and preachers, all routed through 21 independent systems that allow for granular control over each section of the mosque.
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque runs a daily maintenance program to ensure the audio system operates at peak quality. Engineers and technicians continuously monitor control rooms and conduct post-prayer inspections, with special attention given to the sensitive microphones, which are balanced daily for pristine sound. The system also includes backup microphones that activate automatically in case of a malfunction, ensuring uninterrupted audio.
Six central control rooms are strategically located throughout the Grand Mosque, its courtyards, new expansions, and surrounding roads. The authority highlighted that this integrated system seamlessly connects with live broadcast networks, transmitting prayers and sermons in high quality via radio and television worldwide. This effort significantly enhances the global dissemination of the two holy mosques' message of moderation, tolerance, and peace.
Through this advanced audio system, the authority aims to enrich the spiritual experience for worshippers, pilgrims, and visitors during the 1446 AH Hajj season, fostering an atmosphere of humility, contemplation, and reverence. Visitors play a crucial role in supporting this experience by maintaining calm, avoiding disturbances, and respecting the sanctity of the sacred space for the comfort of all visitors.
