Madinah: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research at Umm Al-Qura University is conducting a specialized study to evaluate the operational efficiency of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Madinah during Ramadan. The study uses computer modeling and simulation to analyze the system's performance under actual operating conditions.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the study focuses on the 'Park and Ride' system that connects the Prophet's Mosque with terminal stops. The analysis includes measuring operational efficiency, assessing journey times, and examining the flow of bus traffic. It also reviews challenges during peak periods, when the number of visitors and worshippers rises significantly during Ramadan.
The study reflects the growing importance of public transportation in Madinah during peak seasons. It aims to use scientific tools to understand operational conditions, identify potential challenges, and propose solutions to improve system performance and service efficiency.
The study forms part of the institute's ongoing efforts to employ scientific research and applied studies to develop service systems, support operational efficiency, and enhance the Hajj, Umrah, and visitation experience for pilgrims.
