Culture Ministry and ICESCO Join Forces for Arabic Calligraphy Dictionary

General

Jeddah: In the presence of Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, the Ministry of Culture signed an implementation program with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) to collaborate on the Illustrated Historical Dictionary of Arabic Calligraphy. According to Saudi Press Agency, the implementation program outlines several areas of cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and ICESCO. A key aspect of this partnership is the nomination of Arabic calligraphy experts from various institutions and institutes across the Islamic world. These experts will contribute to the dictionary through writing, editing, and review. Additionally, the program includes collaboration in developing a framework for identifying the most renowned sources of Arabic calligraphy. This involves a comprehensive cataloging of manuscripts, inscriptions, and artistic panels from across the Islamic world. The initiative is part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cultural coope ration between the two parties, which was signed in Riyadh in 2022.
