Culture Minister Inas Abdel Dayem mourned veteran Egyptian actress Ragaa el Geddawy, who died earlier Sunday at the age of 82.
Geddawy had been admitted to a hospital in the Canal city of Ismailia after testing positive for coronavirus and breathed her last today after 43 days of treatment.
Abdel Dayem said Geddawy was a star from the beautiful past and played many roles that would sure be remembered as part of history of the Egyptian art.
Geddawy is the niece of late Egyptian actress Tahiya Karioka. She had studied at the Franciscan Schools in Cairo and worked first as a translator at an advertisement company. She then started her career as a model and was named Miss Egypt in 1958, when she also made her first roles in the cinema.
In the early 70s, Geddawy married football player Hassan Mokhtar and had her one and only daughter.
Recently, she also started to present a number of successful TV and radio shows.
