Riyadh: The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has enabled the deployment of carbon-neutral EcoFusion telecom towers in Saudi Arabia, paving the way for Zain KSA to launch its first site powered by 5G-Advanced technology in partnership with Huawei during LEAP26. This initiative aims to enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions across the ICT sectors, and promote investment in sustainable networks, achieving a 40% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional towers.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the launch ceremony took place at 'LEAP26' in the presence of CST's Deputy Governor for Strategy and Digitalization Naif Sheshah, along with Zain KSA CEO Eng. Saad bin Abdulrahman AlSadhan, and Deputy CEO and Managing Director of the Carrier Business at Huawei KSA Ian Qi.
The tower integrates renewable energy technologies with advanced energy management and efficiency solutions, contributing to a 33.1% decrease in energy consumption, in addition to a further 8% reduction through the use of renewable energy sources. This is achieved while leveraging innovative solutions enabled by the Kingdom's advanced digital infrastructure.
The initiative is part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between CST and Huawei during LEAP24, aiming to collaborate efforts in finding innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the Kingdom's communications and technology sectors. This effort is directed towards achieving digital sustainability and promoting circular economy practices.
