Riyadh: Under the support and enablement of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) through the licensing of the National Specialized Communications Network, Aramco Digital successfully conducted a trial of crowd management using artificial intelligence (AI) and specialized communications services in the Holy Sites. The trial was conducted in collaboration with the High Commission for Industrial Security (HCIS), the Saudi Water Authority, and Saudi Arabia Railways.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the AI-powered crowd management trial enables operational sectors during the Hajj season to communicate via real-time voice and video, ensuring continuous and high-quality services to pilgrims. The trial also provided secure and highly efficient connectivity with immediate responsiveness, unaffected by network congestion.
Additionally, the trial showcased the application of edge artificial intelligence (Edge AI) in crowd analytics, allowing for low-latency data processing and real-time decision-making by analyzing images and video feeds of crowd and vehicle movements, contributing to reduced network load and enhancing operational efficiency.
The trial was conducted using the specialized wireless communication network operating in the 450 MHz frequency band, which was licensed to Aramco Digital in October 2024.
This initiative highlights CST's commitment to harnessing digital infrastructure to deliver advanced technological solutions that support vital sectors during Hajj. It also reflects the strong collaboration between public and private entities in delivering an enhanced and safe experience for pilgrims.
