Jeddah: The sky over Jeddah witnessed a striking optical phenomenon at sunset yesterday, as crepuscular rays appeared in alternating bands of light and shadow stretching from the horizon, forming what are commonly described as "fingers of light" across the twilight sky.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Director of the Jeddah Astronomy Society Eng. Majed Abu Zahra explained that the phenomenon occurs when clouds block parts of the sunlight while allowing rays to pass through gaps, with fine dust and aerosol particles enhancing their visibility.
He noted that crepuscular rays are most prominent at sunset, when the sun is low on the horizon, and that their clarity is influenced by cloud position and atmospheric particle density.
