Cooperation among Mediterranean states more salient now than ever: Egypt’s foreign ministry

On the occasion of the Day of the Mediterranean, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abou Zeid noted in a tweet that cooperation between the countries of both sides of the Mediterranean has become more salient than ever to counter mutual challenges and achieve joint goals.

The ministry had highlighted in a press release that Egypt enjoys a unique location on the Mediterranean, as well as a cultural history with its peoples, with Alexandria being the main point of interconnection.

Furthermore, Egypt has been keen on advocating for unity among Mediterranean countries since the 1990s. As a result, it played a remarkable role in the foundation of Mediterranean organizations, mainly the Union for the Mediterranean.

The ministry underscored that the areas of cooperation that must be currently prioritized among Mediterranean states are climate change, energy and food security, combating illegal migration, countering extremism, and socio-economic development.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs lit Sunday evening its headquarters with the word “MED DAY” in celebration of the Mediterranean Day marking November 28.
