Chaired by Kingdom, UN OCHA Donor Group Continues its 5th Meeting at Expert Level in Geneva

Dr. Aqeel bin Jamaan Al-Ghamdi, the Kingdom’s representative to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) donor group and Assistant Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) for Planning and Development, chaired the group’s 5th meeting at the expert level in Geneva, Switzerland for the second consecutive day. Representatives from 30 member states were in attendance.

During the meeting, Al-Ghamdi discussed the outcomes of the first meeting, touching upon several topics, including preventive humanitarian action, reform in humanitarian programs, and field visits of the donor group in South Sudan. He emphasized the group’s commitment to encouraging UNOCHA to expand the scope of member states’ funds to cover preventive action activities. Al-Ghamdi commended the efforts of the emergency relief coordinator in allocating 10 per cent of the central fund’s budget to respond to emergency preventive work.

UNOCHA officials presented briefings about their preventive action efforts and ongoing projects in several countries, including South Sudan.
