Baseer: National Algorithm Enhancing Crowd Safety at Two Holy Mosques

General

Makkah: The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, has developed the smart platform Baseer, which leverages the latest artificial intelligence technologies, including computer vision and large language models (LLMs), to monitor crowds and ensure their safety and smooth movement as they enter the two holy mosques. The goal is to provide the highest levels of security for pilgrims during the Hajj season 1446 AH.

According to Saudi Press Agency, over four years, Baseer evolved from an algorithm into an integrated national digital system that enhances crowd management and supports decision-making. It offers comprehensive smart solutions including smart gates, real-time crowd monitoring, intelligent search, behavior analysis, and visitor flow management, all within a technologically advanced environment supported by data analytics and artificial intelligence.

This year's Hajj season, Baseer supports the efforts of security and service entities operating at the two holy mosques through its integration with their systems. The platform provides advanced capabilities for real-time surveillance and crowd prediction, contributing to proactive decision-making that ensures smooth movement and enhances the safety of pilgrims.

Baseer reflects SDAIA's commitment to its pivotal role as a national enabler of data and artificial intelligence, dedicated to serving pilgrims in line with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030. The platform is developed by national talents shaping a promising, globally competitive technological future.
