AMMAN, Nov. 24 (NNN-Petra)–Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour chaired a meeting at the Prime Ministry on Monday for the National Council on Competitiveness and Innovation to discuss “The Doing Business 2016 report” in terms of regulatory quality and efficiency. The meeting discussed reforms being implemented to improve the business environment in the Kingdom as Jordan ranked 117th out of 189 countries in the 2015 Ease of Doing Business report that is annually released by the World Bank. Ensour stressed the importance of giving the issue of improving the business environment and competitiveness of the national economy an utmost priority, adding that the government, the private sector and civil society institutions have a role to achieve this objective. “Such international reports are of extreme importance for donor countries and have a direct impact on the movement of investments,” he added. Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said the meeting is part of a series of meeting that were held earlier this year to review ways to improve the business environment. Jordan has been ranked 113th out of 189 countries in the World Bank’s 2016 Ease of Doing Business report. The World Bank said the Kingdom’s economy had dropped by six places from its ranking last year, when it stood at 107, but the full report for 2015 showed Jordan was at 117th position, which means it moved up four places. -NNN-Petra
