Dhahran: The 25th annual Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) 2025 commenced on Monday at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, with the participation of 240 students from 30 countries, along with more than 100 international experts.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the event is hosted by the Kingdom from May 4 to 12 under the theme 'Together, We Generate the Energy of the Future.' It is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and KFUPM, with sponsorship from Saudi Aramco.
Saudi Aramco's sponsorship demonstrates its ongoing commitment to supporting scientific excellence as a global leader in engineering and development, with more than 90 years of experience. It underscores the company's role in empowering young minds and fostering innovation through its support for high-level competitions such as APhO 2025.
Mawhiba Acting Secretary-General Dr. Khalid Al-Sharif stated that APhO 2025 serves as a global platform celebrating intelligence, knowledge, and the limitless potential of youth. He noted that hosting this scientific event reflects Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting and empowering young people to shape the future and lead advancements in physics and beyond.
APhO President Dr. Leong Chuan Kwek affirmed that the event marks a historic moment, as it is being held for the first time in the Middle East, praising the efforts of the supporting institutions that helped turn this major scientific event into a reality.
