Cairo: The Arab League has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the rights of Arab women, ensuring the protection of their achievements, and supporting initiatives aimed at empowering them at all levels. This commitment is described as a crucial element for achieving sustainable development and reinforcing principles of justice and equality within Arab societies.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the League's General Secretariat issued a statement on International Women's Day, observed annually on March 8. The statement highlighted that this year's observance comes amid significant challenges and crises affecting the region and the world, particularly in countries experiencing armed conflicts, wars, and humanitarian crises. It also noted the challenging conditions faced by women in the Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation.
The statement detailed the multiple hardships and violations faced by women and girls in these contexts, including forced displacement, deteriorating living conditions, and limited access to essential services. It also pointed out the increasing risks of violence and exploitation, with regional reports indicating that women and girls constitute a substantial proportion of those affected by conflict and displacement.
The Arab League emphasized the need for intensified regional and international efforts to protect women and girls in areas impacted by conflict, war, and occupation. It further called for increased humanitarian support and the provision of health, psychological, social, and legal services to uphold their dignity and enhance their role in recovery, reconstruction, and peace-building efforts.
