The Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Abul-Gheit warned on Thursday against the serious impacts of the Sudan conflict on food security in the Arab region.
This came during a meeting between Abul-Gheit and Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) Dr. Ibrahim Al-Dukhairi where they discussed the status quo of the Sudanese agricultural sector, according to a press release from the League.
Abul-Gheit stressed that the conditions require urgent actions as the fighting in Sudan led to the disruption of agricultural projects, halting commodities transportation, large quantities damages and an increase in prices.
He instructed forming a joint committee, representing AOAD, the competent bodies in League’s Secretariat and Sudan mission to the League, to verify the implemention of the Arab summit decisions regarding Sudan and food security.
The meeting discussed plans to save the Sudanese agricultural season prepared by AOAD in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Arab League, which aims to secure trade and supply chains for food products.
