Cairo: The Arab Six-Party Consultative Meeting in Cairo today welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the exchange of hostages and detainees. The leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches all areas of the Gaza Strip, while also removing any barriers to the entry of aid for recovery and humanitarian efforts.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting was held at the invitation of the Arab Republic of Egypt and included participation from the foreign ministers of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt. The meeting was also attended by the secretary-general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the secretary-general of the League of Arab States.
The participants commended Egypt and Qatar for their efforts in facilitating the ceasefire and highlighted the significant role of the United States under President Donald J. Trump's administration in achieving the agreement. They expressed a desire to collaborate with the US towards a comprehensive peace in the Middle East based on the two-state solution.
The meeting underscored the need for continuing support to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, allowing humanitarian aid to reach all regions of Gaza. This includes the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, opposing any attempts to divide the Gaza Strip, and enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities across Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
The leaders highlighted the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and rejected any efforts to undermine its functions. They also called for international coordination in planning and implementing a comprehensive reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip, aiming to improve the living conditions of Palestinians and address internal displacement.
Support for the Palestinian people's rights under international law was reiterated, with a firm rejection of any actions that threaten stability, such as settlements, expulsions, or land annexations. The leaders also endorsed Egypt's plan, in cooperation with the United Nations, to host an international conference for Gaza's reconstruction, urging global support for this initiative.
The meeting concluded with a call to the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council and regional powers, to implement the two-state solution, creating a Palestinian state on its national soil, including a unified Gaza and West Bank with East Jerusalem. The leaders supported the efforts of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and the upcoming international conference co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, scheduled for June 2025.
