Animal Taxidermy Workshops Highlight Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition 2026

Riyadh:Visitors to the "Taxidermy World" pavilion at the International Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition 2026 have the opportunity to learn and practice animal taxidermy. The exhibit draws large crowds interested in viewing taxidermied animals and learning about their characteristics and habitats, providing an educational and observational experience.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the pavilion features displays of various taxidermied animals, including the Asiatic lion. This species, once native to the region, disappeared by the late 19th century due to environmental changes and human activities such as hunting. Historical rock carvings document its presence within the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve, and efforts for its reintroduction are being considered for the future.

The Arabian striped hyena is another focus of the exhibit. This nocturnal creature is native to the Arabian Peninsula, including Saudi Arabia, identifiable by its grayish, straw-colored fur, dark stripes, and large ears. It primarily scavenges for carrion but also consumes fruit, insects, and small animals.

Also on display is the Barbary sheep, known as aoudad, which is native to North Africa's mountainous and rocky regions. Adapted to hot and dry environments, both male and female Barbary sheep have curved horns and feed on grasses, shrubs, and leaves. The exhibit notes that this species is not native to Saudi Arabia or the Arabian Peninsula.

In addition to traditional exhibits, Taxidermy World includes a virtual reality experience, enhancing the tour with an interactive element that offers visitors another method of learning about animals and their natural habitats.
