Alula: AlUla’s mountains represent one of the most significant environmental features that have shaped the governorate’s identity throughout history. Their diverse topography has helped protect its heritage, preserve its oases, and maintain a natural balance that has supported human settlement and sustained life in the governorate for centuries.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the civilizations that once inhabited AlUla recorded aspects of their history and knowledge on its rocks and mountains, which today bear inscriptions and symbols that stand among the most significant evidence of human development in the region.
Highlighting AlUla’s mountains coincides with International Mountain Day, observed annually on December 11 and designated by the United Nations to underscore the importance of mountains as vital natural resources for maintaining ecological balance and supporting local communities.
