Alula: The terrains of AlUla Governorate provide a major advantage for endurance races, boasting diverse natural trails and unique geological formations that stretch across valleys, plains, and open deserts. This environment is ideal for testing the readiness of horses and riders according to the highest international standards, adding a competitive dimension to the sport.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the racecourses in AlUla are characterized by their smoothness and variety, combining hard sandy terrain, rocky paths, and open spaces. They pass through rare rock formations that create a cohesive natural landscape, enhancing the technical level of the races and enriching the experience for participants and spectators.
As part of preparations to host the 2026 FEI Endurance World Championship, AlUla is developing a new course, marking a significant addition to the championship’s history. This course will pass through the ancient archaeological site of Hegra, the first Saudi site inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, adding a distinctive cultural dimension to the event.
Organizing these races is the result of an effective partnership between the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), the Saudi Equestrian Federation (SAEF), and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) to develop endurance riding, achieve the highest levels of organization, and enhance the Kingdom’s presence as a key partner in the future of this sport globally.
Among its other strategic projects, AlUla’s RCU has established the Al Fursan Equestrian Village, a comprehensive facility that supports equestrian races and provides advanced infrastructure for riders and participating teams, while preserving the natural environment and respecting the site’s integrity, in line with AlUla’s vision for sustainable development.
AlUla has previously hosted several prominent endurance races, including the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup, the world’s richest endurance race. The great success of these races contributed to the Kingdom being awarded the honor of hosting the 2026 FEI Endurance World Championship, further cementing AlUla’s position as an annual destination for the world’s riders, combining sport, nature, and history.
