The National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, confirmed that Al-Hol camp represents a real threat to Iraq and the region.
The media office of the National Security Adviser said in a statement: “Al-Araji received in his office today the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Iraq, Jean-Jerome Casabianca, and they discussed with him ways to develop partnership and cooperation relations with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq, as well as discussing the files of the Syrian Al-Hol camp and the displaced.
Al-Araji stressed, according to the statement, that “Iraq views the east of the Euphrates as a dangerous area for Iraqi national security, reaffirming that the presence of al-Hol camp represents a real threat to Iraq and the region,” noting, “the Iraqi government is ready to cooperate with the international mission of the Red Cross in all files.
The statement continued, “Casabianca praised, for his part, the Iraqi government’s efforts to return its nationals and its continuous call for countries to return their nationals from the Syrian al-Hol camp, stressing that the Red Cross mission is working side by side with the Iraqi government.”
The statement stated that “Casabianca gave a briefing on the humanitarian activities of the mission and its strategy, in addition to supporting the internally displaced and supporting the Iraqi Red Crescent.”/ End
