Al-baha: Al-Baha Region stands out as a unique tourist destination, rich in cultural heritage and home to centuries-old villages that combine natural beauty with historical depth. Among its most prominent heritage sites is Al-Adhah Village, located in Baydan Center northeast of Al-Baha. Nestled at the foot of the Sarawat Mountains, the village overlooks the Al-Baha Pass Road and several valleys and the Tihama plains.
According to Saudi Press Agency, resident Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Dahri explained that Al-Adhah was once inhabited by more than 10 families who built stone houses, dug wells, and practiced agriculture and herding. He noted that the village comprises more than 20 houses, ranging from one to three stories, which represent traditional regional architecture and preserve the cultural memory of its community. ‘These houses are a testimony to our ancestors’ social and economic life,’ Al-Dahri said. ‘They reflect deep belonging to the land and human creativity in using natural materials to build homes ada
pted to the terrain and climate.’
He added that the village served as a transit point for travelers from Tihama heading to the region’s popular markets, such as the Al-Khamis market in Al-Baha, where villagers welcomed visitors with hospitality and food.
Another resident, Mohammed Al-Baydhani, highlighted the village’s picturesque location, which offers sweeping views of the Sarawat Mountains and Tihama. He explained that villagers relied on rainwater, natural springs, and a communal pool as their primary sources of water, particularly during the dry seasons. However, the village remains difficult to access by car, reachable only on foot through a 6-kilometer trail used by hikers.
Al-Baha Region is home to more than 194 archaeological and heritage sites, including 72 heritage villages. These villages are not only cultural treasures but also key drivers of tourism and economic development, aligning with the Kingdom’s national tourism vision and its broader goals under Vision 2030. They continue to attract v
isitors from around the world and serve as venues for cultural, historical, and heritage festivals.
