Riyadh: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) projects in the transportation sector are making significant contributions toward enhancing safe mobility and improving daily life across Yemeni governorates. These initiatives facilitate travel by land, sea, and air, strengthen social connections, and support commercial and economic activities.
According to Saudi Press Agency, SDRPY has implemented various projects in the transportation sector, including the rehabilitation of airports, vital roads, and increasing port capacity. These efforts aim to enhance infrastructure, logistical opportunities, and provide safe transportation, thereby improving access to services and markets.
A major initiative is the expansion and rehabilitation of Al Abr Road, a highway serving over 11 million people. This road, connecting Saudi Arabia and Yemen, is a crucial international and strategic route linking various Yemeni governorates. It is essential for transporting commercial shipments and facilitating travel, ensuring safe mobility and connecting cities.
Development projects include the rehabilitation of internal roads to enhance traffic flow and access to health and educational services. Specifically, four internal roads in Aden Governorate have been rehabilitated: Abyan Coast Road, Caltex-Al-Haswa Road, Shahinaz Road, and 90 Road. The goal is to improve road safety and access to health, educational, and commercial services.
The program also involves the rehabilitation of Heijat Al-Abed Road, vital for connecting the Taiz Governorate to other regions. This road significantly enhances mobility and road safety for five million Yemenis.
SDRPY's road efficiency projects include rehabilitating approximately 150 kilometers of roads across various Yemeni governorates. In Al Ghaydah District, over 20 kilometers of roads have been improved, focusing on better road conditions and reducing traffic accidents.
In Socotra, road improvements manage rainwater runoff and enhance traffic flow, utilizing stone paving that harmonizes with the island's unique geography.
Overall, SDRPY has provided 264 projects and initiatives across eight essential sectors, benefiting various Yemeni governorates.
