Riyadh: Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz directed the provision of urgent support for the humanitarian response led by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in flood-affected regions of Nepal.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the directive came during a virtual meeting initiated yesterday by AGFUND and chaired by Prince Abdulaziz, in coordination with UNICEF Gulf Area Director Lana Al Wreikat, UNICEF Representative in Nepal Alice Akunga, and AGFUND CEO Hammam bin Juraid.
During the meeting, Prince Abdulaziz reviewed a field briefing indicating that the recent floods have affected approximately 65,000 people, including nearly 24,000 children. The disaster damaged water networks and educational facilities, underscoring immediate requirements for safe drinking water, sanitation, nutritional aid, child protection, school rehabilitation, and psychosocial support.
Prince Abdulaziz emphasized the necessity of aligning humanitarian response with on-the-ground needs while integrating development partnerships to ensure rapid, sustainable impact. He directed the AGFUND team to coordinate closely with international partners to deliver emergency interventions to the most vulnerable groups and support community recovery pathways.
