4.5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Pacific Coast of Vanuatu

An earthquake measuring 4.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Wednesday off the coast of Vanuatu Island in the South Pacific Ocean. The epicenter of the quake occurred 125 km from Luganville city, at a depth of 9.8 km, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). No casualties or material losses were reported so far. Vanuatu Island, an archipelago of volcanic origin in the South Pacific Ocean, is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates meet and their friction with each other leads to seismic activity.
