39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Begins Virtually

Riyadh: Under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) commenced today via videoconference. The conference is organized by the Shura Council and the AIPU, chaired by Speaker of the Shura Council and President of the AIPU Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh, with the participation of the speakers of Arab parliaments and legislative councils, heads of delegations, and representatives of several organizations.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the speaker of the Shura Council delivered a speech after announcing the opening of the conference, welcoming the participants in the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, held under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He affirmed that this patronage reflects the wise leadership's commitment to supporting joint Arab action and strengthening cooperation and solidarity among Arab nations.

He also extended congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince on the outstanding success of the 1447 AH Hajj season and the organization and services provided to the pilgrims.

"We highly value your participation in this conference, held via videoconference, reaffirming our commitment to strengthening consultation and coordination among Arab parliaments in support of our peoples' interests, security, and stability," the speaker of the Shura Council said.

Held under the theme 'An Arab Parliamentary Vision for a More Stable and Sustainable Future,' Dr. Al Al-Sheikh declared that the conference addresses the challenges facing the region and emphasizes the importance of Arab solidarity, cooperation, and addressing shared issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.

"Saudi Arabia reaffirms its commitment to a just and comprehensive peace through the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital," he said.

The speaker of the Shura Council asserted that the Kingdom views Arab security as a collective responsibility and stresses respect for sovereignty, peaceful dispute resolution, and regional stability. It also continues to support humanitarian, development, environmental, and climate initiatives in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

"Saudi Arabia remains committed to supporting Arab cooperation, strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, and achieving security, stability, and prosperity for the region's peoples," he affirmed.

The 39th AIPU conference discussed several topics related to cooperation and ways to enhance joint Arab action.

The conference also reviewed the presidency's report on the 38th conference, as well as the report of AIPU Secretary-General Dr. Ahmed bin Alawi Baabood on the 38th conference of the union. The proceedings also included speeches by the speakers of Arab parliaments and legislative councils, heads of delegations, the Executive Committee's recommendations on a number of agenda items, and a report on the Palestine Committee meeting.

The speakers of Arab parliaments and legislative councils and heads of delegations also approved the reports of the 39th, 40th Extraordinary, 41st, and 42nd sessions of the Executive Committee of the AIPU.
