26th Session of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy Commences in Doha

Doha: The 26th Session of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy began Sunday in Doha and runs five days, with nearly 230 scholars and experts from more than 60 countries attending to discuss 187 research papers. Qatar's Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanim, emphasized reinforcing the role of fiqh, or Islamic jurisprudence, and Islamic thought in addressing contemporary issues.

According to Saudi Press Agency, International Islamic Fiqh Academy Secretary-General Koutoub Moustapha Sano noted that the session's topics address real-world concerns and have a profound effect on individuals and society. Key topics include regulations and controls on artificial intelligence and electronic games, the effect of mental and psychological illnesses on legal capacity under Sharia, and governance under Sharia in Islamic financial institutions.

The session also addresses contemporary jurisprudential, intellectual, medical, social, and economic issues relevant to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states and Muslim communities worldwide.
