Medina: The project to shade the courtyards of the Prophet's Mosque stands as a leading example of employing modern technology to serve pilgrims. It reflects the commitment of the Saudi leadership to enhance comfort and tranquility for worshippers and visitors, while fostering a spiritual environment that reflects the sanctity and significance of the holy site.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative includes approximately 250 automated umbrellas distributed throughout the courtyards surrounding the Prophet's Mosque. These umbrellas are equipped with 436 misting fans, each featuring 16 spray outlets that release treated water. The system is designed to reduce temperatures during periods of extreme heat, creating a cooler and more comfortable atmosphere.

Collectively, the umbrellas provide shade for more than 228,000 worshippers at one time. The system is supported by an integrated control room that operates and manages the umbrellas with high efficiency, enabling a rapid response to changing weather conditions and the needs of visitors.
