BASEL, Switzerland, March 13, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The PharmaLedger Association™ (PLA), a not-for-profit based in Switzerland, announces the endorsement of its 3-year strategic plan to implement and promote a Digital Trust Ecosystem in healthcare (DTE-H) at its Annual General Meeting held in Lucerne, Switzerland on 1 March 2023. The member organizations also confirmed the appointment of eight Directors to its board, delivering on PLA’s core value of “Ecosystem Leadership.”

Representing the diversity of healthcare, PLA’s founding members comprise of large and small pharmaceutical companies, research organizations, patient representative organizations, non-profit organizations, technology, and healthcare service providers. PLA has confirmed its mandate as a pre-competition umbrella organization delivering common and interoperable digital solutions in the areas of Product TrustDecentralized Clinical Trials, and Supply Chain Traceability.

  • Products & Project: In Q1 2023, PLA will release the first qualified product, electronic Product Information for implementation by its members.
    In Q2 2023, the Association will continue with the development of new products in its innovation xLab, including of a product digital twin, decentralized identities, and verifiable credentials to facilitate visibility, security, traceability, and trust in all areas of healthcare.

GCC Secretary General Meets Principal Deputy Administrator of the NNSA at the US Department of Energy

Riyadh, March 13, 2023, SPA — The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, met today with Frank Rose, Principal Deputy Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at the United States Department of Energy.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the progress in implementing the strategic partnership between the GCC and the United States of America, announced in May 2015. They emphasized the significance of nuclear safety, protecting the environment from nuclear pollutants, preventing nuclear proliferation, and prohibiting the transfer of nuclear materials and technologies to terrorist groups. They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides in these areas within the framework of the strategic partnership.

Social Development Minister: allowances to be disbursed to beneficiaries on March 15

Social Development Minister Osama bin Ahmed Al Asfoor stressed the Government’s commitment to improve citizens’ standard of living, in line with the comprehensive development, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support of Hos Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He valued HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s order to double the financial support for eligible individuals on social security and disability allowances marking the holy month of Ramadan.

He extended deepest thanks and gratitude to HM the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, hailing their keenness on ensuring decent living standards for citizens, especially low-income categories.

He announced that the ministry has immediately began implementing HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s order, noting that the amounts due to beneficiaries of social security assistance and disability allowance were transferred to their bank accounts to be disbursed to them on March 15.

E-Commerce Council Discusses SME Opportunities in Retail Sector

Riyadh, March 13, 2023, SPA – On the last day of the Biban 2023 Forum, the E-Commerce Council of the Ministry of Commerce discussed promising investment opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Saudi retail sector, which is the second largest non-oil economic sector and the largest empowering sector for Saudi women.

The E-Commerce Council, in cooperation with the General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (Monsha’at), reviewed the most prominent enablers and incentives for male and female entrepreneurs to invest in the retail sector.

The E-Commerce Council identified the retail sector’s connection to electronic stores and the significant growth witnessed by the retail sector to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to raise the proportion of modern trade in the retail sector to 80% and to add 1 million job opportunities for citizens.

The total number of SMEs in the retail sector exceeded 440,000 by the end of 2022, while retail employment reached more than 1.7 million people in the same timeframe. Also, the size of the retail sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the national economy reached SR340 billion by the end of 2022.

The E-Commerce Council presented official statistics on the retail sector during the fourth quarter of 2022, indicating that the sector’s contribution to GDP amounted to about SR89.5 billion, representing 8.7% of GDP.

SVC Announces the Increase of Its Investment Capital to SAR 6 Billion and Launches Its New Brand

Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning and the National Water Efficiency and Conservation Center Sign MoU to Safeguard Water and Financial Sustainability

Riyadh, March 13, 2023, SPA — The Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP) and the National Water Efficiency and Conservation Center (MAEE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at achieving water and financial sustainability in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The agreement outlines a joint framework for developing and harmonizing the strategic direction of national development priorities and economic policies while enabling decision-making through the preparation of methodologies and studies that support SDGs.

The MoU was signed by the Deputy Minister of Shared Support Services, Eng. Mansour bin Abdullah Alrashed, representing the Ministry of Economy and Planning, and Eng. Fahad bin Huwaizi Aldosari, CEO of the National Water Efficiency and Conservation Center (MAEE).

In a statement, Eng. Mansour Alrashed said, “Through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, we look forward to increasing cooperation in research and innovation to rationalize water use in government facilities and economically impactful sectors. This important initiative will unify efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and help preserve water resources in line with Saudi Vision 2030.” Eng. KSrelief Supervisor General Meets with WFP Regional Director

WEF President Discusses Boosting Partnership with Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, March 13, 2023, SPA — The President of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Mr. Borge Brende, took part in an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation between the Kingdom and WEF.

During the visit, Mr. Brende discussed regional and global economic developments and areas of common interest with representatives from the government, public and private sectors. He also toured the historic At-Turaif District.

The WEF President’s visit followed the Kingdom’s successful participation at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023 in January, with a high-level delegation led by Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Islamic Affairs Minister Receives Australian Special Envoy to OIC
