U.S PRES TRUMP, EGYPT’S AL-SISI DISCUSS BILATERAL TIES

WASHINGTON, US President, Donald Trump, and Egyptian President, Abdelfatah Al-Sisi, Monday, discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations, support Egypt’s fight against terrorism and bolster Egypt’s “home-grown historic economic reform programme,” White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, said.

During a phone call, Trump “underscored, the United States remains strongly committed to the bilateral relationship, which has helped both countries overcome challenges in the region, for decades,” Spicer said, during a briefing.

The president committed to continuing US military assistance to Egypt, and working with Egypt, to ensure that assistance most effectively supports the Egyptian military’s fight against terrorism, Spicer said.

Trump commended Al-Sisi “for his courageous steps, to address Egypt’s economic challenges and offered to discuss ways the United States could support Egypt’s economic reform programme,” Spicer said.

Finally, the two leaders discussed a visit to the US in the future, he said.
