OIC Water Ministers Conference Commences to Enhance Global Water Cooperation


Jeddah: The fifth session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water began today in Jeddah under Saudi Arabia’s chairmanship, bringing together ministers and water experts from OIC member states for three days of discussions on enhancing collaboration in water resource management under the theme ‘From Vision to Impact.’



According to Saudi Press Agency, the session opened with a meeting of the Preparatory Committee, paving the way for official sessions that will address shared water-related challenges and opportunities among member states. The discussions aim to reinforce the Kingdom’s leadership in international efforts to tackle water resource challenges and promote sustainable water security.



The conference seeks to strengthen cooperation and partnerships among OIC member states and affiliated institutions, explore opportunities to leverage modern technologies and digital transformation for sustainable water management, and develop joint initiatives and projects. It also aims to stimulate investment and financing in the water sector while exploring innovative and sustainable financial mechanisms to enhance water security across Islamic countries.



The Kingdom’s chairmanship of the conference reaffirms its leading role in addressing water issues regionally and globally. Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to the water sector through national strategies designed to ensure water security, support environmental sustainability, and improve water resource efficiency. The Kingdom also promotes international cooperation and the exchange of expertise to foster integration and advance the achievement of sustainable development goals.
