Chicago: Endocrinology and diabetes consultant at King Saud University Medical City Dr. Mohammed Al-Sofiani has won the Researchers Award presented by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for his study titled ‘Use of a Smartphone Application for Basal Insulin Titration during Ramadan Fasting.’
According to Saudi Press Agency, the study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of using a smartphone application to adjust basal insulin doses for patients with type 2 diabetes during Ramadan fasting. It also analyzes patient data collected over three years to assess the app’s ability to maintain blood glucose levels within the target range without causing severe hypoglycemia.
The results showed that modern digital technologies can serve as a safe and effective means of managing diabetes during fasting periods. Al-Sofiani received the recognition during the ADA’s annual meeting (ADA 2025), held in Chicago, United States, in May 2025.
