International Conference on Learning Cities Addresses Sustainable Education, Climate Action Challenges.

Jubail: The discussion sessions of the Sixth International Conference on Learning Cities, held here by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Global Network of Learning Cities from December 2 to 5, began on Tuesday by focusing on the main challenges and opportunities in sustainable education and climate action.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the first session delved into partnerships aimed to effectively promote lifelong learning for climate action. It underscored the significance of stakeholder collaboration in fostering lifelong learning and achieving meaningful results in urban climate initiatives. It also introduced strategies for uniting efforts through innovative partnership models, resource sharing, and policy alignment.

The second session focused on promoting health in urban areas, emphasizing the integration of health education into urban planning to foster the development of healthy and sustainable cities and enhance the well-being of communities in the fac
e of climate challenges.

Other sessions emphasized the vital role of community learning centers in promoting sustainable development and local climate action through innovative educational programs. They explored various financing strategies for climate education and capacity-building initiatives. They also discussed how universities can enhance the resilience of learning cities to climate impacts by addressing climate change challenges through education, participatory research, and community-driven initiatives.

Held in Jubail under the theme “Learning Cities at the Forefront of Climate Action,” the conference brings together a group of experts, decision-makers, and representatives of governments and non-governmental organizations from around the world.

It serves as a global platform for showcasing best practices and initiatives that advance education for sustainable development and climate action, further establishing Jubail as a premier international destination for innovation and sustainability.
