Housing Minister Announces Progress in Bahja Project with 645 New Parks and 629 Urban Interventions.

Riyadh: Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Majed Al-Hogail, has revealed significant achievements under the Bahja Project, including the establishment of 645 new parks and the addressing of 629 urban interventions. His announcement was made during his participation in the fourth annual Saudi Green Initiative Forum, held under the theme “Action Is in Our Nature,” which coincides with the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Al-Hogail emphasized that the Bahja Project serves as a practical model for achieving environmental goals. He noted that the project covers an area exceeding 12 million square meters and includes the development of irrigation systems utilizing treated water to conserve freshwater resources. The minister highlighted the progress made under Vision 2030, which has driven a transformation in promoting environmental sustainability in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Hogail also stated that the mi
nistry is deeply involved in Saudi Arabia’s Transformative Journey, focusing on expanding green spaces, promoting afforestation, and ensuring resource sustainability as part of the Saudi Vision 2030. This initiative prioritizes citizens’ quality of life and reflects the ministry’s commitment to the Saudi Green Initiative, one of the largest afforestation projects globally.

Moreover, Al-Hogail outlined strategic plans to support the Saudi Green Initiative, including large-scale afforestation projects that encompass greening streets, medians, pedestrian pathways, and parks. These efforts align with the strategic pillars aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 278 tons annually by 2030 and transition to renewable energy sources.

The minister further disclosed collaborations with global partners, such as the United Nations Human Settlements Program, to enhance urban policies and city services. An agreement was signed to support the Urban Planning Program in Saudi cities, which is anticipated to positively impact t
he global ranking of Saudi cities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Al-Hogail concluded by stressing the importance of integrated efforts from all sectors to achieve the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and highlighted the SGI Forum as a platform for dialogue and exchange on afforestation and sustainability trends.
